Ban on Filipino au pairs working in Europe to be lifted

Those planning to call Philippines should be aware a ban on Filipino au pairs working in Europe is due to be lifted.
Vice president Jejomar Binay has promised that new guidelines for au pairs working in Europe will provide greater protection so that Filipino’s do not suffer mistreatment from their host families.
He said: “The lifting of the ban on the au pair program is sure to bring employment opportunities to Filipinos.
“The new guidelines we have put in place will now facilitate the departure of Filipino au pairs and provide them with safety nets for their protection.”
He added that the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking had been instructed to oversee the au pair program to ensure Filipinos were not initiated into trafficking syndicates or illegal recruiters.
In 2010, a ban on au pairs working in Denmark, Norway and Switzerland was previously removed, with that restriction set to be lifted across wider Europe.
Meanwhile, labour and employment secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz reminded students and jobseekers to remain wary of placement agencies offering bogus job opportunities.
