International calls from mobile: Data rates 'will not stall smartphone market'

As more people make international calls from a mobile phone, it has been said that competition in the arena will keep the smartphone sector growing in the future.
Competition between providers is driving prices down, says Conrad Longmore, editor at Mobile Gazette.
"If people feel they are being ripped off then they will probably shop around for a carrier that offers better value rather than give up their smartphones," he commented.
All smartphone users, regardless of which network they are on, can get cheaper rates for making international calls from their mobile with Planet Talk.
According to figures from Gartner, smartphone volumes will represent 14 per cent of total mobile device sales this year and grow by more than a third (38 per cent) by 2013.
Next year, the firm expects average selling prices for smartphones to decline by three per cent.
