Unemployment levels in the UK are set to "continue rising", an economics expert has warned.
However, the country has "probably" emerged from recession, said Alan Clarke, UK economist at financial services firm BNP Paribas.
While the UK is no longer in negative growth, it is also the case that it is a "long, long" way off achieving "booming" levels of growth, he commented.
"Come next year, when we have fiscal tightening - so higher taxes and lower government spending - that is going to stop growth from ever getting back to its motorway speed," he added.
Planet Talk customers who are saving money during the downturn by benefiting from cheap international calls offered by the service may be noting such economic forecasts with interest.
The Bank of England Monetary Policy Committee recently stated that consumer confidence has started to pick up slightly from the extremely low levels seen since the financial crisis last autumn.
