Joseph Yobo could miss the remainder of the Africa Cup of Nations after suffering a hamstring injury.
The Nigeria defender tweaked the muscle in his team's 1-0 victory over Benin on Saturday (January 16th) and has traveled to Luanda for a scan to determine the extent of the problem.
Everton defender Yobo is an important cog in the Super Eagles machine, stepping out as the team's captain so far in the competition.
Nigeria's final group match is against Mozambique today (January 20th), with the team set to progress to the next stage of the tournament if they manage to avoid defeat.
Meanwhile, fellow African football giants Ghana have scraped through to the quarter-finals with a hard-fought victory over Burkina Faso.
The Ghanaians won 1-0 thanks to a first half goal from Dede Ayew but the match was not easy for a side that perhaps missed the drive of Michael Essien in midfield, who has withdrawn from the tournament with a knee injury.
