International calls: Nigeria requests removal from USA watchlist

Authorities in Nigeria have expressed their displeasure at the country being included on a new security watchlist in the USA.
Nigerian nationals are among those who will face enhanced security checks at airports when they fly to the USA.
The Nigerian government has issued a formal request to its American counterparts for the African country to be removed from the list that contains 13 other countries, such as Libya, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Yemen.
Government officials in Nigeria have complained that its inclusion on the list could harm relations between the two countries.
Airport security has risen to the top of the political agenda in the USA once again after a Nigerian national allegedly tried to blow up a Detroit-bound plane on Christmas Day.
Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab has been charged on six counts, including the attempted murder of 290 people.
