Nigeria key to TV adoption

Those hoping to make cheap calls to Nigeria may be interested to learn the country is expected to be integral to an upsurge in TV adoption.
According to a report issued by Digital TV Research today (February 6th), Nigeria will account for an estimated 25 per cent of sub-Saharan TV households by 2017.
With incomes per capita on the rise and populations in the 42 countries covered in the report continuing to grow, the research body has forecast sub-Saharan Africa will have 50 million TV households within five years.
It was further projected that digital TV uptake will continue to increase, with 54 per cent of households expected to be taking advantage of the technology by 2017, compared to around 25 per cent currently.
Report author Simon Murray said: “Governments are opening up to investment, which involves several pioneering foreign TV players.”
South Africa is due to make up 15 per cent of TV adoption within the same timeframe, with sub-Saharan households due to increase uptake by 20 million.
