The UK visa office for Pakistani nationals is set to return to Pakistan after it was temporarily moved to the UAE, according to reports.
UK home secretary Alan Johnson is said to have decided that the visa office can move back to Pakistan, as the problems with IT systems that apparently prompted its move have now been resolved.
Mr Johnson has also vowed to address the problem of backlogs and delays in the system of dealing with applications for UK visas from Pakistani nationals, amid claims that some individuals are having to wait months for a decision.
By next month, the time period for issuing visas will be brought down from 60 days to between 15 and 20 days, the home secretary pledged.
Mr Johnson, currently on a visit to Asia with Bob Ainsworth, also revealed that he has offered to second British personnel to work in a new Pakistani anti-terror unit.
He did not state how many British employees would likely be working in the new intelligence agency.
