Cheap international calls: Philippines holidays 'boosted by Chinese economy'

Tourism in the Philippines is benefiting from the thriving Chinese economy, it is claimed.
The so-called Chinese tourism boom helped boost foreign visitor arrivals in the Philippines by six per cent in the first half of the year, according to the country's Department of Tourism.
Especially impressive visitor levels have been noted on the island of Cebu and the resort island of Mactan, with the popular pairing attracting some 321,116 foreign tourists from the start of January until the end of June.
According to John Scott, finance director of Asset Property Brokers, the Philippines tourism sector is in an "excellent position" to take advantage of the thriving Asian economies.
"This rising affluence has led to the growth of an aspirational middle class who want a relaxing beach holiday abroad, and they find the Philippines an unbeatable destination," he remarked.
Visitors to the Philippines might wish to do a spot of designer shopping while they are in the country, with a report on the Philippine Star website suggesting that the Kultura Filipino store in Manila boasts an excellent collection of "uniquely Filipino" items.
