Jobcentre Plus launches easy-to-use mobile app

iPhone users looking for work in the UK will benefit from a new app launched by the Jobcentre Plus.
The new tool will enable people to search for jobs by location, as well as save preferences for job searches, according to employment minister Jim Knight.
Users can select key areas in which they would like a job and view vacancy locations with Google Maps.
The app will also send a notification to the owner when a vacancy matches their preferences, allowing them to make a cheap call to check availability while on the move.
Mr Knight said: "Giving people access to the internet in job centres and expanding the tools available through the introduction of the app are just two elements of this work."
The app is also available on iPod touch and Google Android-enabled phones.
Jobcentre Plus' new app may have come at just the right time to take advantage of the growing interest in smartphones.
Earlier this month, figures from Gartner indicated that more than half of mobile device sales will be touchscreen devices by 2013.
