Cheap international calls: Saudi Arabia heads 'religious restrictions' list

People in Saudi Arabia experience significant restrictions on their religious freedom, a new study has claimed.
Along with Pakistan and Iran, Saudi Arabia is imposing the most stringent restrictions on religion, according to the Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life.
The study's authors claim that in those three countries "both the government and society at large impose numerous limits on religious beliefs and practices".
Other countries such as Vietnam and China were found to have high government restrictions on religion but came within the moderate or low range in terms of social hostilities, while it was vice versa for the likes of Bangladesh and Nigeria.
The study, which is entitled Global Restrictions on Religion, found that 64 nations - about one-third of the countries in the world - have high or very high restrictions on religion.
Launched in 2001, the Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life claims to be a non-partizan organisation, as it seeks to explore the links between religion and public life without taking positions on policy debates.
