UK visitor visas 'should be easier to obtain'

It should be easier for overseas nationals to obtain visas for visiting the UK, it is believed.
During a panel debate at the UKinbound conference business workshop, various speakers referred to the need to streamline the system so that the UK is an appealing destination for foreign nationals.
Tobias Elliott MP, the Conservative spokesperson for culture, media and sport, suggested that the UK is struggling to compete with other European countries in attracting visitors from emerging economies such as China.
He stated that he has been in discussions with the Tory foreign affairs spokesman William Hague about the possibility of translating visa applications into other languages in order to make them easier to complete.
Margaret Hodge, who is currently the minister for culture, media and sport, also addressed delegates and revealed plans for a so-called Schengen Bolt On arrangement, which would make it easier for people to obtain visit visas for the UK.
However, Ms Hodge added that national border security considerations will always take precedence in this issue.
