Cheap calls: International travellers 'should carry money and plastic'

International travellers have been advised to carry both cash and credit or debit cards.
People who travel abroad will need cash to pay for taxis and drinks, said Sarah Munro, head of Post Office Travel Services.
"A surprising number of holidaymakers visiting more far-flung destinations get caught out when they try to pay with cards in restaurants, bars and petrol stations, only to find that they are not accepted," she revealed.
Ms Munro pointed out that people can avoid the security worry of carrying large amounts of cash by instead taking a pre-paid card, which can be loaded with funds before they embark on their international trip.
Such cards are more secure because they are not linked to a bank account and can therefore be replaced easily.
According to new research from finance giant Santander, over half (52 per cent) of all Britons travelling abroad take cash as their primary payment method.
The next most popular methods are the credit card (20 per cent) and debit card (15 per cent), while one in 20 (five per cent) use travellers' cheques.
