UK mobile market growth 'may slow' in 2010

UK mobile phone market growth may slow because of economic uncertainty, it has been claimed.
The British market will be "the most difficult to call" in terms of forecasting growth, according to the chief executive of Telefonica Europe Matthew Key, in an interview with the Times.
Consumers' financial concerns could see them opting for cheaper handsets, in addition to seeking tariffs offering cheap international calls.
Mr Key told the newspaper: "Do I expect the trends [of growth] in the UK to continue? Yes.
"Will it continue accelerating at the rate it has done? Probably not."
His comments follow the publication of Telefoninca Europe's fourth quarter results, which show that its customer base increased by seven per cent, with positive growth accelerating throughout the quarter.
The group also noted its lowest ever churn figures in the UK and year-on-year growth in data revenues of 37 per cent.
