Nokia launches Skype application on Ovi

Telecommunications firm Nokia has made a Skype application available to buy from its Ovi store, making it easier to make cheap international calls.
Any Nokia Smartphone using the Symbian ^1 platform will be able to take advantage of the application, which allows users to hold voice conversations over the internet and avoid using up valuable minutes – only data charges will be incurred.
Skype can also act as an instant messaging client, as well as turning mobile handsets into voice over internet protocol (VoIP) phones for calling international numbers.
Nokia's collaboration with Skype on the project aims to bring the programme to 200 million phone users worldwide and it is believed that other handset manufacturers such as Sony Ericsson will also soon be able to benefit from the technology.
Those who are puzzled by the way Nokia's new phones are named may be reassured by a commentator's analysis of this.
3g.co.uk recently explained to people looking to find the right phone to make international calls that Nokia's Xseries range is social media orientated, the Cseries is lower-priced, while the Nseries is for fans of cutting-edge technology.
