Sudan feud with South Sudan ignites UN concern

The heating up of the feud between Sudan and South Sudan has prompted the United Nations (UN) to express fresh concern.
Those planning to call Sudan might discuss the bombing of a South Sudan oil field yesterday (March 27th), which is among a number of clashes fuelling tensions between the two nations.
According to a report by the Associated Press, the UN Security Council called on both governments to display “maximum restraint” and to opt for peaceful negotiation on issues causing mistrust.
The UN is pushing for respect to be shown between the two states, with incidents of “troop movements, support to proxy forces and aerial bombardments” said to be part of the cross-border conflict.
Before the oil field bombing, Sudan and South Sudan also came head-to-head on Monday in the disputed border town of Jau, which led to the cancellation of president Omar al-Bashir’s scheduled meeting with counterpart Salva Kiir next week.
South Sudan gained independence from Sudan last July after an extensive period of civil unrest between the predominately Arab north and African south.
