A major new cruise terminal is set to open in Dubai.
The facility, situated at the Port Rashid complex, will be inaugurated in February and provide a significant boost to tourism, according to the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM).
With an impressive facade based on Dubai's contemporary Arabic design, the main purpose of the terminal is to project the rich heritage of Dubai as a maritime centre and express its new-found importance as a key international travel destination.
The terminal has been designed to handle four ships simultaneously, so that it can cater for the increased number of cruise ships visiting Dubai.
It was recently suggested that the cruise sector is starting to attract young tourists, which could be a big bonus for Dubai as it looks to emerge successfully from the financial crisis.
Stephen Park, UK general manager for Norwegian Cruise Line, said young couples are increasingly opting for cruises instead of traditional resort-based breaks.
