Cheap international calls: Dubai's Shaikh Mohammad praises UAE culture and arts activities

The United Arab Emirate's vice-president and ruler of Dubai, Shaikh Mohammad, has praised the local cultural activities on offer in the Gulf region.
Speaking at a meeting that included cultural, artistic and political leaders from across the region, he underlined the important role that the arts play in creating a cultural identity, reports Gulf News.
He highlighted the key role that writers, poets and artists play in not only establishing a culture, but also in establishing a sense of national identity across the UAE.
This will undoubtedly be a point of discussion for those contacting family in the UAE via cheap international calls, with the region famed most commonly for its business success rather than that of its cultural heritage.
The Shaikh's comments are likely to prove a much-welcomed recognition of the important role the arts plays in the UAE.
Dubai's Culture & Arts Authority is set to host its fourth annual Dubai Festival for Youth Theatre in October, which sets out to promote youth talent and features various theatre-based groups and workshops.
