Nokia handsets outsell competitors, figures show

News brought to you by Planet Talk - cheap international calls from home, mobile or any phone.
Nokia mobile phones may be the most popular devices on which to make cheap calls and international calls from family and friends.
Although having lost market share, the mobile phone developer sold more mobile phone handsets to customers globally than any of its competitors in the second quarter, according to research by Gartner.
Nokia has a market share of 34.2 per cent, having sold over 111,000 units worldwide. The firm's closest rival is Samsung, selling just over 65,000 handsets in the three months to the end of June, giving it a 20.1 per cent market share.
Despite all of the hype surrounding smartphones such as Research In Motion's BlackBerry and Apple's iPhone, these manufacturers still only boast a small proportion of the overall global mobile device market.
Apple sold 8,743 units in total in the second quarter, while Research in Motion sold slightly more (11,008).
The new iPhone 4 suffered widely publicised setbacks on its release, with many customers complaining that they had reception issues.
However, CNET UK indicated that these ended up being inconsequential because "it's so fantastic at everything else that it does".
