US website 4chan exposes cat torturer

In a move that showcases the power of the internet, a website based in the USA has been responsible for naming and shaming a cat tormentor in Coventry.
The site 4chan is an institution in itself, publishing 22 million pages of web content and with 9.5 million unique users every month. It is the birthplace of internet phenomena such as Rickrolling and lolcats.
It was also the site that put an elderly cat torturer in her place. After CCTV footage was released of an old Coventry lady putting cats into litter bins, it was the internet gurus across the Atlantic that decided to mete out justice.
The woman was soon identified through her images as Mary Bale, while death threats made over cheap international calls and hate mail began pouring in.
Speaking to the BBC, Rob Manuel, founder of a similar Britain-based website, commented: "Essentially, it's about taking trolling to the nth degree and saying: 'Let's put all the trolls in one place and see what happens.'"
