Afghanistan appeals for help due to drought

Afghanistan is appealing for international aid to help feed people this winter, due to the worst drought in a decade.
In what is likely to prompt cheap international calls to the country, Afghanistan is hoping to raise $142 million (£92 million) to help feed 2.6 million people during the winter months.
Some 14 provinces in the north and east of the country are currently experiencing a severe drought, with many farmers forced to sell livestock to pay for food.
Afghanistan has yet to develop the infrastructural systems necessary to deal with climatic problems such as this on its own, according to agriculture minister Mohammed Asif Rahimini.
Some experts have warned that Taliban strong-holds and insurgents could affect the delivery of food supplies to some areas in need.
