The number of applicants for higher education courses in the UK has hit a record level, according to new figures from UCAS.
As of 22nd January, there were 570,556 applicants for the next academic year, representing a 22.9 per cent rise on 2009.
The number of home-based student applications went up by 22.1 per cent, while applications from overseas students increased by 28.7 per cent.
Foreign students are among those who can benefit greatly from the cheap international calls offered by Planet Talk, enabling them to keep in touch with friends and family without breaking the bank.
Commenting on the record number of university applications, Acumin PI spokesperson Jamie O'Connell said: "The statistics show that the increases we have seen are a result of various factors such as more mature students looking to go back to education and an increase in applications from overseas."
He added that many UK school leavers appear to be looking to the USA and Australia for university opportunities.
