Britons who take holidays abroad are "starting to take climate change seriously", according to a travel industry insider.
Certain patterns of more responsible behaviours in international travel patterns are beginning to emerge, said Dermot Blastland, managing director of TUI Travel in the UK & Ireland.
"Consumers are going on holiday because they want to have a good time but 60 per cent of them prefer to go with companies who are eco-friendly," he commented.
Mr Blastland also suggested that developers in tourist destinations need to start planning for climate change and ensure that any new buildings are sufficiently robust to withstand the elements.
Meanwhile, Britons who regularly make international calls to friends and family in Ghana will be interested to note that the country has been recognised for its ethical tourism credentials.
Ghana was named in a list of the developing world's best ethical destinations for 2009/10, which was recently compiled by Ethical Traveler.
