Merging cultures: Afghan schoolgirl visits Fort Collins, US

An exchange student from Afghanistan is getting lots of interesting cultural experience during her trip to Fort Collins, US.
Sixteen-year-old Zahra has spent the last few months travelling around the city learning about the US, while also teaching locals about her own culture, according to the Coloradoan.
In both senses, the experience has no doubt provided lots of fodder for discussion during cheap international calls to family and friends back home.
Speaking to the newspaper, Zahra said: "I'm very impressed [with the American educational system] because here, students have a lot of opportunities and extra-curricular activities."
She also compared her experiences in the US with her time at school in Afghanistan, explaining that supplies of appropriate study material was often a real problem.
Following a recent visit to Afghanistan, New Hampshire junior US senator Kelly Ayotte underlined the need for women to be given more opportunities to participate in decision-making in the country, reports the Citizen of Laconia.
She said that, by comparison, neighbouring Pakistan gives women far more opportunity to have a role in society than in Afghanistan.
