Migrant boat sinks off Indonesia

A boat carrying migrants to Australia has sank off the coast of Indonesia, leaving up to 200 feared dead.
Cheap calls to Australia are sure to be likely after the heavily overloaded boat packed mostly with Afghan and Iranian asylum-seekers sunk 40 miles off eastern Java, in heavy rain and high waves.
The fibreglass boat was claimed to have had a capacity of 100 but was reportedly carrying about 250 people in total when it sunk.
A total of 33 survivors were plucked from the waters, according to officials, however they have claimed that there is little hope of finding any other passengers alive in the shark-infested waters.
"We sent out five boats and three helicopters but no survivor or body was sighted," district search and rescue official Kelik Purwanto told AFP.
Purwanto went on to add: "It's impossible even for a good swimmer with a life vest to swim to shore safely in such extreme conditions."
