Holidaymakers shun Brit food for local cuisine when abroad, survey shows

People making cheap international calls from countries such as Ghana are increasingly choosing their holiday destination based on that country's cuisine, new research shows.
A survey by Churchill Travel Insurance revealed that one in ten holidaymakers has chosen their holiday destination based solely on that country's cuisine during the past two years.
Furthermore, some 782,677 travellers have actually scheduled their trip around a specific reservation at a particular restaurant.
In addition, 83 per cent of Brits abroad are spurning British food in favour of local cuisine, with one in four bringing home local ingredients to recreate the culinary magic at home.
Annette Fox, spokeswoman at the company, said that travellers must ensure they are wise to the risks of eating exotic food and check water is safe to drink.
"If not, use bottled water, even for brushing your teeth, and avoid ice cubes or eating fruit or vegetables that you cannot peel yourself. Make sure that your food is piping hot and has been freshly prepared," she said.
