India seeks Facebook censorship

Top internet companies such as Facebook and Google have been requested to screen content being published in India, it has been reported.
According to Reuters, Kapil Sibal, the country's telecoms and information technology minister, has asked executives from the sites to block certain text or images online that could provoke tensions.
The minister met with various internet service providers as well as Facebook, allegedly showing a site with disparaging remarks made about Sonia Gandhi, president of the Congress Party.
Reportedly, Mr Sibal said: "This is unacceptable."
The news prompted many responses on Twitter, with messages calling the actions an attempt to censor the Indian people.
India's Mumbai University was recently the host of a three-day conference for Wikipedia, the internet-based encyclopaedia, which discusses the possibility of creating more pages in languages such as Gujarati and Hindi.
