Indian execs granted bail in telecoms licence investigation

Five company executives have been granted bail in India, having been charged with offences linked to a telecoms licensing scandal.
Three companies and 14 people have been charged in connection with the case, which alleges the granting of telecoms licenses was rigged in 2007/08.
A trio of executives from the Anil Ambani group, DB Group chairman Vinod Goenka and Unitech managing director Sanjay Chandra were all granted bail by the two-judge panel.
The family and friends of others detained in connection with the investigation will no doubt be hopeful these releases will precede consideration of other bail pleas.
However, the release of the five businessmen has come at a price, with bail having been set at 500,000 rupees.
India's chief auditor put potential losses to the country's exchequer following the licence-granting exercise at around $31 billion.
All of those under investigation deny any wrongdoing.
