Philippine clash causes thousands to flee homes

A deadly clash in the Philippines could prompt cheap international calls as thousands of people are being forced to flee their homes.
Philippine soldiers and a group of Muslim separatists, entitled the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), began fighting on Basilan island on Tuesday, after both sides accused one another of breaking a seven-year truce agreement.
Nearly 30 people have been killed so far in the clashes and Al Rasheed Sakalahul, Basilan's province vice governor, claimed that the deployment of more troops, armoured vehicles and helicopters has forced residents to leave their homes in search of safety.
President Benigno Aquino is to summon senior generals for a meeting on Friday to assess the security situation.
