Philippines music industry 'going in the wrong direction, says Jim Paredes

Songwriter Jim Paredes has spoken out as to why he believes the music industry in the Philippines is flagging, potentially sparking cheap international calls.
Paredes told Yugel Losorata of the Manila Bulletin Publishing Corporation that the Philippines is failing to export its culture through music in the way countries such as Brazil do.
He told the publication that the Philippines must take its music "seriously".
"In the '70s we say what we wanna say. We are now off to a wrong direction because of fake artists whose bad songs become good when presented through music videos. That is why I've never been a fan of videos," he added.
The songwriter is currently promoting his solo album "Laro", which features single "Butong Pakwan". He is known in the country for writing classics such as "When I Met You," "Batang-bata Ka Pa," and "Mahirap Magmahal Ng Syota Ng Iba".
