Court action planned to review Dalai Lama visa failure

South Africa's opposition political parties have filed for High Court action to review why the government failed to issue the Dalai Lama a visa earlier this month.
Cheap international calls are sure to be frequently made as news of the investigation emerges, after the Inkatha Freedom Party and the Congress of the People launched the judicial review.
Earlier this month the Dalai Lama was forced to cancel plans to attend Archbishop Desmond Tutu's 80th birthday celebrations after the country failed to issue the spiritual leader with a visa.
Opposition parties have argued that the government bowed to pressure from China to block the trip, an allegation which has been strenuously denied.
Instead the Dalai Lama delivered a lecture at the celebration via a video link.
