South Africa names football squad for January friendlies

Cheap calls to South Africa are likely to spark debate today, after national football coach Pitso Mosimane announced the squad for the team's three friendly matches in January.
The 30-man squad will be eligible for selection against Equatorial Guinea on January 5th, Zambia on the 11th and Ghana on the 15th, in preparation for the Africa Cup of Nations.
South Africa's squad sees the inclusion of six new faces, including May Mahlangu and striker Ryan Chapman, who have both impressed at club level.
Other first time call-ups are Patrick Phungwayo, Mamelodi Sundowns, Themba Zwane, Rudiger Gilbert and Mzikayise Mashaba.
Mosimane explained his selection, saying: "I have invited some players so I can have a closer look at them. I also want to reward those who did well this year."
He expressed his regret at not being able to include some of the overseas-based players, however called it "a blessing in disguise", as he can now look at more new players.
