Pregnant women 'must consider risks of travelling'

Pregnant women who want to make cheap international calls from a holiday in destinations such as the UAE should first sensibly consider the risks, one expert has advised.
Dr Lucy Chappell, of King's College London, said that women should consider and minimise the risks of travelling when pregnant by choosing the safest time to do so - usually during the second trimester, according to a BMJ Group podcast.
She explained that many pregnant women who want to travel have not considered the risks of doing so.
"Many women are at low risk and will be safe to travel, and it shouldn't be an alarmist message but it is really trying to focus on those women where it wouldn't be a good idea," she said.
Mothers wanting to relax following the birth of their child, however, could round up a few friends and head to Virginia Beach in the USA for a girly getaway.
