X Factor USA sparks age limit debate

Recipients of cheap calls from the USA are sure to have heard about the dramatic tantrum of a 12-year-old contestant on X Factor USA.
Young hopeful Rachel Crow was eliminated from the show in front of a live audience and subsequently fell to the floor, breaking down in tears and hysterically screaming.
This reaction has prompting much controversy as to whether the talent show should have age limits for contestants to help shield young participants from undue distress.
Critics are suggesting that the age limit should be fixed to 18 years old, six years higher than the current 12-year barrier.
The X Factor UK age cap is currently 16, but judge Gary Barlow and mentor Robbie Williams have lambasted this age limit for being too young when 16-year-old Luke Lucas broke down in tears on stage after an under-par performance.
