Mobile phones could play a significant part in the future of gaming, an expert has said.
The arrival of the Apple iPhone and the App Store has "rejuvenated" the mobile gaming sector, according to Parker Consulting chief executive officer Nick Parker, speaking at the Westminster eForum keynote seminar on the UK computer and video games industry.
His comments may interest those who are already using their mobile phones to make cheap international calls and for an increasing range of other daily tasks.
A survey published in September by market research firm TNS and Gamesindustry.com found that mobile phones and social networks such as MySpace and Facebook are the game platforms of the future, although they are yet to properly take hold in the UK.
Some 73 per cent of those questioned for the 2009 UK National Gamers Survey regularly play games, with many ranking gaming as their favourite pastime, ahead of surfing the internet and watching TV.
