Filipino graduates urged to take courses in banking

Anyone planning to call Philippines may be surprised to learn high school leavers are being urged to study banking and finance to generate higher salaries later in life.
According to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in the Philippines, banking and finance employees can earn between P15,000 to P40,000 per month.
Labor and employment secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz said: “Salaries of banking and finance workers could even go up to P100,000 per month, especially for those with specialised skills.”
The advice from the DOLE comes as it aims to encourage upcoming professionals to make “wise” career choices, particularly directing them towards in-demand occupations over the next five to ten years.
As part of the initiative, the department has set up an online 101 Career Guide so that Filipino graduates can uncover which industries are looking for an increased number of candidates for hard-to-fill jobs.
Ms Baldoz explained that one of the reasons these jobs are hard to fill is that they require specialist skills many prospective employees do not have.
The Filipino labour force is comprised of more than 38.51 million workers across 215 locations worldwide.
