England's head coach Fabio Capello appears to have laid down an incentive for Owen Hargreaves as he battles to overcome his injury problems, with the Italian already pondering his squad selection for next year's World Cup in South Africa.
The Manchester United midfielder has been suffering from long-term knee concerns, but Capello has offered a glimmer of light for the former Bayern Munich man.
"He has six months to recover good form, but he needs to play," the England manager told Sky Sports News.
"I will choose players that will be fit in May and players that play all the games."
And Capello is well aware that Manchester United striker Michael Owen is another player who will be hoping to earn a place on the plane to South Africa next summer.
However, Capello has suggested that, like Hargreaves, Owen will need to play more games before the end of the season if he is to force his way in.
