Concern grows over South African rhino poaching

There is growing concern about the threat posed by poachers to resident animals in South Africa's Kruger National Park.
Growing numbers of animals are being killed as a result of criminal activity in the park, which is a huge draw for safari tourists visiting the country.
The South African Police Services is already pursuing leads following the latest incident, with rangers having discovered eight rhino carcasses in the Lower Sabie and Pretoriuskop areas.
All of the rhinos had been stripped of their horns, with South African National Parks spokesman Reynold Thakhuli noting this is the first time so many have been killed in a single day.
He added that 488 rhinos were lost to poachers in 2011, with a substantial proportion from Kruger Park.
A 2009 study claimed that the vast majority of the illegal rhino deaths in Africa occur in Zimbabwe and South Africa.
