Cheap calls: International travel 'set for increase'

International travel may be set for some kind of recovery in 2010, new figures suggest.
More than half (55 per cent) of people in the UK plan to travel more this year than they did in 2009, according to a survey from Travelzoo.
A quarter of respondents said they would give up dining out to ensure they could travel for leisure, while 22 per cent would give up home improvements and 52 per cent would give up luxury goods.
However, separate research from PricewaterhouseCoopers indicates that, in the short term at least, it will continue to be a difficult trading environment for international travel firms.
Almost 20 per cent more people than last year are said to be forgoing their usual winter break of either flying off for Christmas sun, holidaying in the UK or hitting the ski slopes.
Frances Tuke, spokesperson for ABTA - The Travel Association, said: "With the economic climate at the moment being so uncertain, 2010 is obviously going to be quite a difficult trading environment."
