Sri Lanka cricketers to receive some back wages

Cricketers are likely to become the topic of cheap calls to Sri Lanka, after the country's sports minister revealed that members of the national team are to receive a portion of the wages they are owed.
Sri Lanka's cricketers are owed eight months of unpaid wages, which are made up of contract payments and match fees, all of which have not been given out since the World Cup ended in April.
Sports minister Mahindanda Aluthgamage has however told parliament that 65 per cent of the contract payments owed to the players will be made as soon as Sri Lanka Cricket receives a hefty payment from the International Cricket Council for co-hosting the international tournament earlier this year.
Despite once being one of the richest sporting bodies in the country, Sri Lanka Cricket has incurred debts of $69 million (£44 million).
This is largely due to renovation and construction of cricket grounds in preparation for the World Cup.
