Young couples are increasingly opting for cruise holidays as opposed to traditional resort-based breaks, it is claimed.
"We are seeing families and young couples a much more diverse range," revealed Stephen Park, UK general manager for Norwegian Cruise Line.
Cruises have attracted new types of customers because they have been able to offer improved value for money, he claimed.
Mr Park added: "We do need to get better prices, but consumers have never had it so good."
People based in the UK are able to keep in touch with their loved ones abroad by making cheap international calls through a service such as Planet Talk.
Jenny Young, consumer executive director of telephone company Telstra, was recently quoted by the International Business Times as saying that technology can play a key role in bringing families closer together at Christmas.
She pointed out that there are plenty of affordable means of making cheap international calls on the market, including phone, broadband and video facilities.
