Emirates has announced it will launch direct flights between Dubai and Tokyo.
The United Arab Emirates-based airline has unveiled its plans some seven years after launching operations to the Japanese city of Osaka.
Beginning on March 28th next year, the airline will operate five weekly flights to Tokyo with a Boeing 777-300ER, which will feature eight first-class private suites, 42 business class seats and 304 in economy class.
The Japanese capital becomes the airline's 102nd international destination, following the launch of new services to Luanda and Durban in Africa.
Referring to Tokyo as a world finance centre, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, chairman and chief executive of Emirates Airline & Group, said: "Emirates' direct services will link the city to over 100 international markets spanning six continents, facilitating the smooth transfer of business and leisure travellers as well as cargo."
Although Emirates now operates services to over 100 international destinations in more than 60 countries, when the airline was first set up in 1985 it had just two aircraft.
