The tourism sector in Abu Dhabi has unveiled new targets for reducing its environmental impact.
Under the new plan, the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) is aiming to achieve ten per cent energy, 20 per cent water and 20 per cent waste-to-landfill savings over the coming year.
"These ambitious targets are aimed at improving the environmental performance of hotels so that they are in line with, if not better than, the world's greenest," said Nasser Al Reyami, ADTA's tourism standards director.
He added that ADTA has received a "tremendous" response to the scheme from the emirate's hoteliers and other tourism industry insiders.
In other news from Abu Dhabi, Rafael Nadal has won a tennis tournament after an entertaining final against Sweden's Robin Soderling.
Nadal won the keenly contested final of the Abu Dhabi Championships 7-6 7-5, with Soderling having beaten world number one Roger Federer en route to the final.
