UAE in talks with BlackBerry

UAE government officials are in talks with BlackBerry manufacturer Research In Motion (RIM) to find a way to avoid outlawing the device. Concerns over the way BlackBerry servers store and transmit data could have lead to a blanket ban. This would leave users unable to use their phones even to make or receive cheap calls. The government's stance seems to have softened a bit as the Canadian phone manufacturer makes efforts to allay the worries that the smartphone could potentially jeopardise national security. Speaking to the Al-Roya al-Eqtissadiya newspaper, Huda al-Mutawa, spokeswoman of the Telecommunication Regulatory Authority, said: "Talks are still ongoing between the Emirati and Canadian parties, and we hope that we will reach a final solution that would satisfy us." Recently, RIM also promised the Indian authorities that it will be delivering a software patch that would allow the government to monitor the phone's data service. © Copyright What's the cheapest rate for calling from the UK to UAE?
