UK student faces USA court over copyright infringement

A UK student could be the subject of cheap calls to USA, after a court ruled that he can be extradited.
Sheffield Hallam University student Richard O'Dwyer created a website entitled TVShack, which provided links to sites that allowed people to watch films and TV programmes for free.
O'Dwyer is alleged to have earned thousands of pounds through advertising revenues before US authorities shut it down as part of a crackdown.
If convicted of copyright infringement he could be jailed in the USA.
However, his lawyer Ben Cooper argues that the site did not store copyrighted material and simple directed users elsewhere.
Cooper also worried that O'Dwyer was being used as a guinea pig for copyright law in the US as he would be the first British citizen to be extradited for such a crime.
O'Dwyer is reported to be appealing against the extradition ruling made by Judge Quentin Purdy at Westminster Magistrates' Court.
