Afghan MPs call for parliament inauguration

Around 100 Afghan MPs have called for the president to inaugurate the new parliament, in a move sure to spark cheap international calls.
Afghanistan has not had a proper parliament since September 18th when the results of a parliamentary election riddled with fraud were declared.
The group, which has named itself the Administrative Board, said that president Karzai was trying to erase the results of the election following reports that the attorney general wants them annulled.
Despite the fact that the general election results were released on December 1st, as of yet there has been no attempt to convene parliament.
Critics believe this is due to the fact the president is unhappy with the results as the new parliament would contain a larger and more coordinated opposition than the previous one.
This comes after news that a poll carried out by Transparency International that more than 50 per cent of people in Afghanistan, India, Nigeria and Iraq had paid a bribe in the past year, an indication the world is becoming more corrupt.
