Fast food apprenticeship 'offers valuable transferable skills'

An apprenticeship scheme offered by burger giant McDonald's provides employees with useful transferable skills, an executive at the firm has said.
The scheme is equivalent to "five good GCSEs" and is accredited by City and Guilds, commented David Fairhurst, senior vice-president of McDonald's.
He said the qualification is open to all of the company's 73,000 employees in the UK if they wish to take it up.
Referring to the knowledge gained by apprentices, the executive added: "They are transferable skills which not only help us and the individual - it benefits the sector and the wider economy."

The new scheme means that McDonald's will be the UK's largest apprenticeship provider, with one in five apprenticeships being delivered by the fast food company.
