Ofcom warns EU mobile users to keep costs down on holiday

Mobile phone customers heading off abroad over the next few months have been offered some tips on how to avoid running up a huge bill.
UK telecoms regulator Ofcom has released a new video on its website, offering advice on cheap international calls made abroad as well as using the web.
Tourists have been urged to make sure that their handset will work abroad, in addition to checking the cost of international calls on their tariff before travelling.
Ofcom also warns that connecting to the internet abroad often costs significantly more than in the UK.
In July, all mobile operators in Europe will need to introduce a cut-off mechanism that prevents mobile phone users from spending more than €50 (£44).
This will apply only while users are making international calls within the EU, which is part of the reason that Ofcom has released this new video and set of guidance notes.
