Australia to investigate Google's activities

Following concerns over data breaches, the Australian police have been asked to investigate the activities of internet giant Google in Australia.
The breach occurred when Google was capturing 360 degree images for its street view application. A mistaken use of a code that gathers information from Wi-Fi networks led to the collection of too much information including personal data. The search engine has apologised for the incident and claims it was unintentional.
Attorney-general of Australia Robert McClelland said: "Whether there are charges in the first place is a matter for the Federal Police but in light of concerns that had been raised by the public, my department ... thought there were issues of substance that required police investigations."
Concerns over Google's information gathering practices have been previously raised in both the USA and Germany.
