BlackBerry users in India who use their phones to make cheap calls have breathed a sigh of relief as the government has decided to put a hold on completely banning the device.
The move was announced as Blackberry maker Research In Motion (RIM) was successful in buying two more months to allow it to alter its services so as to give the government better access to data stored and sent using the devices.
RIM has promised technical solutions that will allow the Indian authorities to monitor encrypted email sent and received by BlackBerry users.
The move follows in the wake of security concerns being raised over the use of these phones and consequently the government announcing a blanket ban if the phone manufacturer failed to set things right.
In recent times UAE has also raised concerns over Research in Motion's encrypted data services, claiming that it posed a significant threat to national security.
