Mobile app to reconnect refugees with families

A unique mobile application has taken cell phone handsets beyond the traditional use of making cheap international calls.
Launched by Refugee United and Ericsson in association with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the application is aimed at helping refugees locate their family members.
It has been designed by the Christopher and David Mikkelsen, who credited the creation to David's experience of helping a young refugee from Afghanistan to locate his family some years ago.
Antonio Guterres, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, highlighted the important role played by the private sector in furthering many humanitarian causes.
He said: "Today mobile phones are everywhere. Utilising this readily available technology for a good cause to enable refugees to connect with and reach out to family members they have lost contact with is fundamental."
After registering refugees can search the expansive databases of Refugees United to locate their family members and then ask a series of personal questions to confirm whether or not they are contacting the right person.
